Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) continue to be an integral part of the Philippine economy by providing jobs and resources to local communities. As such, the public and private sectors have joined forces to develop countless programs to help empower and encourage entrepreneurial pursuits.
While these joint efforts continue to support MSME growth and development, gender-based interventions are still needed to equalize the playing field for both male and female entrepreneurs. Interestingly, around 60% of small businesses in the country are female-owned or led, but they continue to lag behind their male counterparts in terms of access to technology and training.
In an age where e-commerce has become synonymous with business, it is important to give women opportunities to further participate and thrive in the digital economy. This can be done by eliminating barriers to digital entry, facilitating learning and growth opportunities, and rallying a community to inspire more women to start their own businesses.
