MANILA, Philippines – Petro Gazz star spiker Brooke Van Sickle rose to her second career PVL Most Valuable Player award as she led the Angels to a breakthrough All-Filipino Conference championship against powerhouse Creamline on Saturday, April 12.
The Filipino-American ranked third in scoring with a total of 349 points built on 296 attacks, 30 kill blocks, and a league-leading 23 aces.
Aside from her stellar scoring, Van Sickle also displayed exceptional floor defense, finishing third in receiving with a 35.37 efficiency rate and sixth in digging with a 2.89 average digs per set.
PLDT super scorer Savi Davison clinched the Best Outside Hitter award alongside reigning Reinforced Conference MVP Bernadeth Pons of Creamline.
Young spiker Trisha Tubu of Farm Fresh corralled a Best Opposite Hitter plum for the second time in the last three conferences, the other time being the 2024 Reinforced tilt, as she edged the likes of Akari’s Eli Soyud for the award.
Creamline defender Bea de Leon claimed her first career Best Middle Blocker award as she helped anchor the Cool Smashers back to the finals, same as ZUS Coffee star rookie Thea Gagate, who helped lift the Thunderbelles to a breakthrough quarterfinal appearance shortly after being a cellar-dweller.
Choco Mucho defensive ace Thang Ponce won Best Libero honors as the Flying Titans settled for a fourth-place finish behind bronze-series tormentor Akari, while Creamline playmaker Kyle Negrito rose as the Best Setter — both stars winning their respective citations for the fourth time in their careers.
Young Cignal standout Ishie Lalongisip completed the cream of the crop as the Best Rookie of the Conference ahead of the likes of Gagate, marking her rise as the HD Spikers’ next star after the departure of former league MVP Ces Molina. – Rappler.com
